Standards of assistant services for people with disabilities in the City of Warsaw
2018-12-17

At the end of the year, we were working on a project concerning “Standards for the implementation of assistant services for people with disabilities in the capital city of Warsaw” commissioned by the Social Services Center "Social Warsaw".
The standards developed, after further consultations with various stakeholder groups, will apply to every entity providing assistant services co-financed by the City Council. The key elements of the document, including lessons learned from the project stakeholders (including people with disabilities and their relatives), were:

  • Service definition, area of operations, goals
  • Recipients of services
  • The scope of services and activities performed as part of services
  • Professional competences of an assistant of a disabled person
  • Employment rules of assistants of people with disabilities
  • Rules for the award and settlement of services
  • Control, monitoring, reporting and supervision over the quality of service provision
The role of an assistant of a person with disability is to prevent social exclusion of persons, who due to their health condition are often unable to participate independently in social activities. The task of the assistant is therefore to help people with disabilities in their activation and fulfilling social roles through, among others, support in using public transport, help in everyday activities, gaining education, or accompanying in places like the cinema, theater, or a sports match.
